About

The Ending Queer Youth Homelessness campaign was founded in 2015 by the Australian Queer Student Network. Every night, over 600 people will not have a place to call home in Australia. The minimal data currently available estimates that in some Australian cities, over 25% of those people identify as part of the queer/LGBTQIA+ community.

This page is a growing resource dedicated to connecting queer/LGBTQIA+ young people with support options available nationally and locally, as well as empowering communities with resources to create local action and change. One of the aims of this project is to avoid the current stigma and prejudice surrounding homelessness and make it easy for those seeking support to find it. It is hoped that beyond linking people with support, this website will inspire local campaigns for greater services on campuses and within communities, as well as add more voices to calls for large-scale social changes such as more public and affordable housing in Australia.

Since 2015, the Ending Queer Youth Homelessness campaign has also launched public actions, community events and stalls, Mardi Gras float entries, news articles and even a motion in the Australian Senate to raise awareness of the issue and begin work to provide pathways away from homelessness and support for those experiencing it.

If you would like to get involved with the campaign, or offer support/ideas to bolster our work, please contact us here with "EQYH" in the title.
